Tomorrow is August 31, 2012. It will be a blue moon. The last one to occur was March 2010.

I’ve been thinking about how many changes I’ve been through since that time. 2010 was a tumultuous year for many reasons. It was also the year I started running. Dec 1, 2010 was my epic decision day.

Since then, I have done:

two half marathons
several triathlons
a 5k swim
won a one-month lap swim challenge at the YMCA
had over 20,000 hits on this blog
shaved my head
lost significant weight
gained confidence
gained optimism
entered 12-step recovery for food addiction

That’s a lot since the last blue moon. I’m done with new year’s resolutions. I’m finding less tradition timelines to use for deadlines and goals. I now have a new decade resolution. By the time I’m 50, I have some pretty insane goals. (They involve belt buckles.)

But in a more manageable timeframe, more long-term than 6 months, but not so far out as a decade, I think I’ll set some blue moon goals. The next one will be July 31, 2015.

That’s just under three years from now. I am sure other goals will pop up between now and then, but I can set some serious ones right now.

In no particular order……
complete a Half-Ironman in under 6 hours
complete a 10k swim
swim around the Statue of Liberty
run up the Empire State Building stairwell
Swim the Chesapeake Bay Bridge
Complete an Iron Distance Triathlon
Run a marathon under 5 hours
weigh less than 190 pounds
run a sub 28 minute 5k
Complete the Disneyworld Goofy Challenge

Ambitious? Of course. Life’s too short to settle for meh.
